HI, I'M AVA!
I'm here to help you glide into a new hobby.
I started Skate with Ava in February of 2022 with the goal of connecting with my community. I realized most people just need someone for reassurance and to guide them through the basics.
As I got reacquainted with figure skating at Wychwood barns, a friendly community member asked if I would consider teaching skating lessons. I decided to give it a try by sharing this idea on Facebook. Skate With Ava was born! I had many of students of all ages who reached out and together we had a very successful 2022 season.
Though I am not a professionally trained coach, I have a strong background in figure skating and I've learned methods to teach various skills. My focus is on delivering easy-going lessons to provide you with basic skills so you can skate with comfort and joy. :)

Play-Focused Learning
With many years of experience working in children's programming, I bring creative strategies to help kids have fun on the ice. This includes creating mazes to follow and chasing bubbles to help with balance.
Get Comfortable on the Ice
Looking for a companion to help you stay steady on the ice? I'm here for you! I can help you balance on the ice and teach you the basics to help you feel comfortable and confident.
Accessible Payment
As a student, I understand that costs can be barriers. I usually charge $20 per 30-minute lesson, but I am happy to chat on a case-by-case basis and offer accessible options. Sliding scale, cash, e-transfer or trade are acceptable!
Intermediate Skills
Already comfortable on the ice? I can show you some intermediate skills including cross-cuts, stopping, spins, bunny hops and toe loops.
FAQ
1 / Where do lessons take place?
In the past, I've mainly done lessons at Wychwood Community Rink. Due to warm weather, it is not open yet so we will start the season at Giovanni Caboto and Cedarvale.
2 / Do you offer group lessons?
Not usually! Though I would be open to groups of 2-4 :)
3 / Where can I buy skates? Should I get my skates sharpened?
Skates can be bought new at Canadian Tire or Sportchek, or used at Newson's, Play It Again Sports, and Value Village.

Sharpening is important! Sportchek, Bill Bolton Arena, and Newson's offer this. At Sportchek, it's $9 or $75 for a card of 10 sharpenings.
